What you need to know

The romance of the harp!

The harp is a romantic and exotic  instrument - it will add that extra-special touch to your special day!   The harp introduces a warm encompassing feeling to any wedding or  special event, whether it is playing in the church before, during or  after the service, or at the gathering time before the wedding banquet  or during the meal itself.

Set a tranquil and elegant mood as your guests assemble for the  ceremonies to begin.  Entertain them while they watch the signing of the  register during the ceremony - it will be one of their long-remembered memories of your day.

The harp can also give an informal home or garden wedding that special something.

Think of the many possibilities for your wedding or special event.

Your wedding is a special occasion deserving of that additional, perfect and final touch which a harp provides.

About Lauren

Lauren Hill is an experienced harpist with exceptional credentials. She has been playing the harp since 1989 having been a student of Marie Lorcini, harpist for the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.

In the early days, she won first prize at the Toronto Kiwanis Festival for seven years and won the prestigious John C. Van Esterick Scholarship.  She was an invited guest performer at Hamilton's James Street Baptist Church in its Centennial Concert series and has been invited to play at the historic Whitehern mansion on special occasions, including Hamilton's First Night  celebrations.

In the summer of 1999, she was the only young Canadian harpist invited to play at the 7th World Harp Congress in Prague.  She was selected out of a large number of young harpists from around the world and only 36 were selected to play. She has been a guest performer with several Youth Orchestras including those in Hamilton, Guelph, London and Niagara.

Since then, over the years, Lauren has played at dozens of weddings and special events such as retirements, book launches, and office and Christmas parties and she has been called upon to play by the City of Hamilton at some of its functions.

Planning and Booking

Planning the music for your special event can include a hearing with Lauren to help you make choices to suit your occasion -  traditional, classical, modern, jazz and show tunes.

Included in Lauren's repertoire are many favorites, including:

   Bridal March - Wagner
   Trumpet Voluntary - Purcell
   Canon in D - Pachelbel
   Jesu, Joy - Bach
   Little Fountain - Pratt
   Amazing Grace - Anon
Phantom of the Opera - Webber
   Nataliana - Conant
You raise me up - Josh Groben

If you have a favorite piece of music, let Lauren know well ahead of time and she will try to meet your requests. It must be remembered that some musical pieces, especially modern ones, do not always have harp parts written for them.

It is important to book early, especially for weddings which tend to be concentrated in certain seasons and on certain weekends.

You can contact me at lauren@heavenlyharp.ca or telephone 905 525 0333 to discuss details and arrange a hearing if necessary.  Most requests can be met if discussed well ahead of time.

Rates vary according to several criteria, including:

  •   Total length of time required
  •   Movement of the harp, if required
  •   Indoor or outdoor location
  •   Distance to travel to event

For those planning events other than weddings, consider a harp ambience for:

  •   guests at retirement parties,
  •   anniversaries and vow renewals,
  •   corporate functions,
  •   cocktail parties and other special occasions.

Dates are considered pending and not booked until confirmed by a deposit prior to a hearing.
